Fenech-Soler Announce New Single and Tour

'Lies' is out 20th September on B*Unique

Fenech Soler are a true faith in pop nowadays. Their spirited and self determined explosive debut, 'Lies' comes to us, radio-friendly, on September 20th through B*Unique.

Their independently released single Stop & Stare was playlisted on Radio 1 in May and reached the Top 10 of the Dance and Indie singles charts.

An album is planned for release September 27th.

Scottish quartet,The Cinematics throw forth their latest track 'Love and Terror' - a post-punk revival of a tune...

"Glaswegian four-piece, The Cinematics, who on first impression look like a suspect line-up to a school boy prank, manage to produce an all-encompassing, pleaser of a track. It hooks you in with a bruising bass line and grunge-gurgling guitars, while all the time Scott Rinning is screaming for you to “give (him) love and terror.” He’s quite demanding, it seems."

An article published on the BBC's website has detailed that the first EVER video advertisement will appear in US magazine, Entertainment Weekly, this coming September.

How cool?!

"The video-in-print ads will appear in select copies of the US show business title Entertainment Weekly.

The slim-line screens - around the size of a mobile phone display - also have rechargeable batteries.

The chip technology used to store the video - described as similar to that used in singing greeting cards - is activated when the page is turned.

Each chip can hold up to 40 minutes of video."

"Your Garden's Wearing a Haute Couture"

Two words: IMOGEN HEAP

Named as the biggest web personality, above world leaders and any other celebrity, Imogen Heap has been working away at her third release, 'Ellipse', which finally comes out on the 24th August 2009.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a promo copy of the album, courtesy of 4ortherecord, and below you can find and read my review.

"Whether Heap’s nail violin is gnarling it’s way ‘Between Sheets’ or her Buddha machine is simply making a mess of them, there is such an awe-inspiring amount of production and effort in ‘Ellipse’. Nothing is wasted. ‘2-1’, originally titled Polyfilla, was written for Narnia: Prince Caspian but was deemed too dark so, overhauled with organs and playing on light panels, Heap re-mastered it with magic to become one of the standout songs on the album."

"SMD’s own tracks (free from fame) are among the stand out sounds. Ambulance is the type of track that plays when you’re at that far gone point of a night when you really don’t care. You float on its glitch-fuelled cosmic mix that drops unadulterated analogue synths like acid, while Synthesize is animalistic and archaic with its demented “woo-ooh” warbles."

Panic? No, it's just a New Perspective

Panic at the Disco. are finally back on our speaker systems, albeit a few changes.

In July 2009, both guitarist Ryan Ross and bassist Jon Walker, left the band, claiming it was due to "creative difference". Hmmm...

Now, Panic is comprised of vocalist Brendon Urie and drummer Spencer Smith, and personally, it works better.

The new sound is great: it retians the quirkiness of the original Panic we came to love on smash 'A Fever You Can't Sweat Out,' yet brings a whole new edgier dimension that we are all the more grateful for.

For those of you who haven't yet heard new release 'New Perspective' here's a video with the song in (not the actual video):

Welsh-born Marina aka Marina and the Diamonds is about to tumble into the music world with as much gutso as a greddy gannit, and with her influences listed betwee Brody Dalle and Britney, we're for a treat.

The Guardian newspaper, like myself, found that "Her songs are hard to fathom. They veer between simple keyboards-based ballads and more upbeat and catchy, quirky new wave-inflected numbers enhanced by bass, guitar and drums. In the latter instances, we're assuming the sprightly nature of the music is an ironic cover for lyrics critical of modern mores in general and the male of the species in particular.

If you find her a little gem, track her down at the NME Radar Tour 2009, between September 26th - October 14th.

Scottish singer-songwriter, and one of my personal favourites, Paolo Nutini, has hit the official UK number one spot in the album charts with his second offering and has, quite literally, landed 'Sunny Side Up'.

Let's hope he preserves the positives and looks a little less glazed this year whilst on the festival circuit.
